Homeward Poem by Christian Thomas Scott

Homeward

Rating: 4.8

Slipping sand dunes, ice cold sundown,
Windblown waves and soft-streaked bay.
I liked when you were better off and
Loving tiptoe tempest tales,
Bowing to the show of life,
Of woven, moonlit sails.

Dark silked treetops, dream-spun nightlife,
Soft-shorn greens and flitting Time.
I hoped I would be sailing now,
Living thrills of tables turned,
Calling to my inner self and
Turning from the ground.

Construct beauty, rigid homeland,
Parched away and blemished through.
Cold unfeeling, desert screaming,
Heaven shines the sunset cue.
Swing along the two-way rivers,
Catch yourself on brink of bed.
Tiptoe through the days as once
We travelled far ahead.

Where the wind blows, catch me drifting,
Catch you following the sound.
Oh you slender breath of wisdom,
Take us farther, all around.
Places longer slept than many,
Footsteps never touching near,
Though we love our little moments,
Windblown ships are sailing clear.

Do not dare lay siege your freedom,
Live and love and fantasize,
Dreams come longer, daylight fleeting,
Dancing night is close behind.
Leave, we're homebound, never travelled,
Either rest or carry on.
Our hearts are building us a place,
To rest our dreams upon.

I liked the basic meter and rhyme of this poem which I think could be improved on with a little more editing. Nevertheless it has some good imagery and is well written.

The meter is meant to mimic change as the poem progresses. Each line is building towards the final two, with allusions in each paragraph preceding one. Look at it as a journey itself, instead of a collection of words.
