How Are You Today Poem by Francis Duggan

How Are You Today

I have sung your praises in many a rhyme
But to when I first loved you I must go back in time
Perhaps to the nineteen fifties when I was a boy
The songs of your birds to me a thing of joy.

The fields were resplendent in their flowers of the May
And the hawthorns were cloaked in their blooms of light gray
Wild bluebells bloomed on the ditch of the bohreen
I still can recall the great beauty I've seen

When I was a young boy from here far away
Such good memories with me perhaps 'til death will stay
In fancy I walk in the old fields again
And my great love of Nature with me does remain.

The Gods most others believe in seem hidden from me
But wherever I turn to your beauty I see
I love you today as I did years ago
Yet so little of your ways I do seem to know.

Those who do dismiss you must live with a lie
As for me I will love you 'til the day I die
The sun out and shining gulls sing by the bay
My Goddess of Nature how are you today.
