How Can You Poem by Bancroft Boreland

How Can You

You travel across the globe
Flashing the world your brightest smile
I remain at home
Anxiously watching the days go by
Your heart is healthy
It does not even skip a beat
I am still breathing but barely
Afraid of nightmares, I dare not sleep
You have gone
And in your mind I am already forgotten
I keep holding on
Praying that someday, somehow
I can make you love me again

How can you look so happy
When I do not even have the strength to smile?
How can you act as if I never existed
While I am here yearning for you?
How can you find comfort
In the arms of another
When my heart is calling your name?
How can you my love?
How can you?

I have left the doors unlocked
And I stay awake at nights
Waiting for you to come back…
