I Act As If I Will Live Forever Poem by Shalom Freedman

I Act As If I Will Live Forever

I act as if I will live forever
I know I will not
Yet I show no urgency about my work
I do not do what I should-
I am lazy and slow and neglectful and wasteful
It will all run out
Before I have really done the work I should
I know I am wrong
And yet in me some resistance I cannot understand
Vanity of vanity of vanities
Whether I do it or not.
