I Am Old/But Perhaps/ Have Many Years To Live Poem by Shalom Freedman

I Am Old/But Perhaps/ Have Many Years To Live

I AM OLD/ BUT I PERHAPS/ HAVE MANY YEARS TO LIVE

I am old
But I perhaps
Have many years to live-
Being old
And with less than full power
In so many ways
What am I to do with my life?
How can I make it valuable to others?
How can I make it bearable?
I can write little lines
As I do now
But they do not give many much
Do I have it in me
To do something beyond
What I have done before?
Something that really means something
To others?
I don’t know and I doubt it
I pray God will give me the courage and strength
To try.
