I Can Never Be Anyone Else Poem by Shalom Freedman

I Can Never Be Anyone Else

I AM ONLY WHO I AM

I am only who I am
I can never be anyone else
Even if they are greater than me
All the reading and loving of the poetry of others
Will not make me be them
Or even close to being them
It is possible to care for to admire even to love others
Without becoming them
I can only be who I am
I cannot be them
No matter how much I admire respect love their work
More than my own.
