I Choose This Poem by Peter Andersen

I Choose This

In the silence before dawn, like the ocean chooses the wave,
I choose this path, a choice as deep and brave.
For the first time, with open eyes, I see the shore,
Choosing willingly, I step into the roar.

Like the sky chooses the cloud, shaping day from night,
I choose my own fate, my own way, my own light.
In this act of choosing, I find my own sun,
A declaration of self, a new day begun.

My mind, once a storm, now calm as the sea with you,
My spirals of doubt, like fog, clearing to a view anew.
I am less, yet more, the ocean meeting the sand,
In your presence, I truly understand.

Like the earth loves the rain, nourishing life anew,
I love what you make me, what you are, so true.
What you bring me is the spring after winter's hue,
With you, I love me, in ways I never knew.

Dreams bloom like flowers in the light of our moon,
True, they often feature you, a familiar tune.
Sometimes naked, in the raw beauty of night,
But always true, in the soft morning light.

I choose this, like the forest chooses the bird's song,
For myself, a melody, long sought and long.
This choice, a seed planted in the soil of the heart,
A beginning, a journey, a new start.

Me being my own witness, in this pitiful art,
I choose this path, this love, this part.
For in choosing, like the earth chooses the spring's bloom,
I find myself, and in finding, I give room.
