I Deserve To Live Poem by Charity Nduhiu

I Deserve To Live

Rating: 5.0

I deserve to live even though it seems like
I was not meant to. Born out of wedlock
was like a cause problems followed me left
and light sickness burns were all meant
for me. My mother who was once married
was divorced shortly after I was born
questions laced my mind don't I deserve to live?

Straggle and hustling followed me and
a young child on my back offered no help.
Don't I deserve to live were the only
questions that struck my mind door to door
was my day to day duty looking for employment.

Too much struggle taught me to depend
on my self and to work hard not to look
upon our pioneers who worked hard
a lesson learned made me a great woman
of substance an admirable iron lady
just because I realized that I deserve to
live.
