I Did Not Know How Afraid I Was To Die Poem by Shalom Freedman

I Did Not Know How Afraid I Was To Die

I did not know how afraid I was to die
And then it appeared I might
And instead of the stoic courage I expected
I quickly came to the edge of breakdown

I am no hero
I know that
But I had thought I had thought this out
And was resigned
I'm not

When the evil truly comes
And the whole deterioration to the end starts
I am afraid now
I will fall apart

I am very afraid to die
And I am going to
And perhaps even worse.

We should not be here as improbabilities. Back we go to nothing. Really, quite simple. Who's afraid of nothing?
