I Did Not Write This To Offend Poem by Ramona Thompson

I Did Not Write This To Offend

Inspired by the recent mess with Michael Richards

Never ever call me that name again or else
I want only to be judged for who I am inside
Not just for the color of my skin alone
Get out and go far, far away from me
If you are too damm narrow-minded to understand
Give me the same respect as you would anyone else
All that I am asking for is this
To have my rights enforced and accepted just the same
as yours
Rather you think it's right or it's wrong this much
I believe is true
This much I believe should be a law

Nevermore shall any man call another man that by that
name
So vile and cruel
That horrid name we all fear and dread
That oh so sickening name......
