I sit in the park and dwell for this boy, i love so well.
He took my heart away from me, he says he wanted to set me free.
I see a girl on his lap, he says things to her that he never said to me.
I ran home to cry to my bed, not a word to my mother was ever said.
father came home late that night, he looked at me from left to right.
he saw me hanging from a rope, he took his pocket knife and cut me down.
And on my dresser a note was found:
Dig my grave, Dig it deep.
Dig my grave from head to feet.
And on the top place a dove,
and remember this, I died for love.
After doing more research this is based on an early 1600's english folk ballard called A brisk young soldier courted me. The poem version here originated early 90's late 80's minimum. The amount of people claiming ownership is insane not sure why everyone feels the need to lie
It was a little different and had. At the park down by my street met a boy who was so sweet. Stole my heart and set it free when another girl sat upon his knee. You 100% didnt right this in 2003 i have known this poem since the mid 90's
I grew up in Cairns Australia and this poem was written in the local playground and I memorized it.
Angelica you are a liar...this poem was written and published long before that. I wrote it a little differently and my sister had it published using her name back in the 90's
