I Do Not Know For Certain That God Cares For Me Poem by Shalom Freedman

I hope that God does
There are many signs that God cares for me
I have had and I have many blessings in my life-
But there are other signs
And all end by leaving this world
Some in terrible pain
And many in confusion
And years of not being themselves-
Like the best person to me I have ever known
My mother-
So how can I be certain?
So many good people have known horror they did not deserve-
How can I possibly think I am the special one?

I hope God cares
I often believe God cares
But I do not know for certain-

I pray to God that God does care
I try to do what I believe G-d demands as proper worship
But who am I to know for certain?
I pray God cares for me and all I love
And in a way for everyone who has not been too cruel or evil-
I pray -
