I Have A Devil On My Shoulder Poem by Dennis Walker

I Have A Devil On My Shoulder

I have a Devil on my shoulder whispering in my ear
Telling me to run away and leave to get the hell out of here
To go and have some fun to party every night
As I did when I was young from dinner to morning light
Forget the responsibilities that always come with age
Play with the different partners as they say the whole world is a stage

I have an Angel on my shoulder whispering in my ear
Telling me to stay and love all who are near
To work hard to pay the bills to keep the home intact
Love my wife and children to honor my pact
When times are hard and I fear I might fall
To be the one who has the strength the strength to keeps them all

Why do I get this nagging in each ear?
Surely in my head this all should be clear
Why dose the Devil tempt me it sounds O so good
But I know I would never leave even if I could
I am a man of honor and I would always stay
But sitting here I dream of the past life that slipped away.

Everyone can relate to your poem. Temptations and moral values at war with each other is tormenting to mortals like us. I like this poem.
