The kitchen window,
In a suburban house,
Owned by a lady,
In a plain looking blouse.
She sits at her table,
See's a few of the pond,
See's a young couple,
Just begining to bond.
She lets her mind wander,
Through all her years past,
Thinks back to France,
Where she'd seen him last.
Years ago it was,
Several decades at most,
Nazis lind the street,
Never leaving their post.
She always thought,
She had nothing to fear,
They werent after her,
They'd made that clear.
Her lover, a Jew,
She thought would be free,
Cause love always makes it,
Thats the way it should be.
Through bloodshed in the streets,
And parents afraid,
No one could destroy,
The tie that they'd made.
Until the last day,
After hunger and hiding,
Through hardships and death threats,
And racial dividing.
They made it through,
There love stayed alright,
It was their victory,
They'd wont the fight.
But on the way out,
When the Nazis were fleeing,
They fired one last shot,
To stop what they were seeing.
It hit him dead on,
As the truck sped away,
She can hear his last words,
To this very day.
He had but a second to speak,
To let her know,
'I love you' he said,
And then he let go.
Her tears were eternal,
Her sadness was real,
Through the celebration,
It was all she could feel.
Her eyes were not dry,
Long after he was taken away,
The only one crying,
On liberation day.
But she lived on,
Moved to the U.S,
She once had love,
And she'll never settle for less.
All alone all these years,
His picture on the wall,
But she doesnt cry anymore,
For nothing at all.
She looks out the window,
Feels the sun on her face,
See's the young couple,
Locked in an embrace.
She looks a bit closer,
She knows it true love,
She smiles for the first time in years,
To the sky up above.
She looks back down,
Before she could miss,
That multi-racial couple,
Share their very first kiss.
She sits down in her chair,
Thinks back to that day,
'I love you' she says,
Then passes away.
