I'm Down By The River Poem by ANDREW BLAKEMORE

I'm Down By The River

Rating: 4.8

I'm down by the river a feeling so peaceful
To gaze at the water that slowly flows by,
Whilst heading downstream on a tide of emotion
It mirrors the sight of the beautiful sky,
While there from the bridge I can see in the distance
The ancient cathedral that proudly does stand,
Through treetops of emerald it rises before me
To dwell in the heart of this wonderful land.

The gentle reflections that fall on the surface
Are casting their shadows that slowly does rest,
Then merge with the diamonds that dance in the sunlight
And ride on the breeze to their heavenly quest,
The silver white swans by the shoreline are gathered
As river boats waiting are tied to the quay,
And ready to sail for they're crowded with people
Embracing the views that are calling to me.

I'm down by the river as evening's approaching
I watch the sun falling and shadows that grow,
The silhouette skyline upon the red canvas
All blending as one as the skies are aglow,
The church bells are ringing from over the water
The sound is so soothing and sweet to my ear,
I watch as the sun slowly yields to the twilight
Then look to the sky as the stars do appear.

What can I say? Once again such a gorgeous write, entrancing me from the first word to the very last. We are in drought, our Torrens River through our city muddy and sad. I shall pretend I am where your river is and ride on the beauty of our words all day and night! Karin Anderson
