I'M Getting On In Years Now Poem by Francis Duggan

I'M Getting On In Years Now

I'm getting on in years now my balding head is gray
But I am not complaining that I've known a better day
The present is all that matter and the past is forever gone
And our biological clock is ticking and life goes on and on
The present is all that matter and the past is forever past
Though good memories of our younger years into old age does last
The secret is in living and live for as long as you can
My only life's ambition is to die as an old man
The baby born yesterday is one day nearer to death
For each and everyone of us there is a final breath
The celebrity and the billionaire to the reaper's scythe must fall
Just like the poor old homeless soul death does await us all
I would like to live forever but alas that cannot be
And the monarch and the billionaire are mortals just like me.
