I'M Just A Guy Poem by Raymond Farrell

I'M Just A Guy

Rating: 4.5

I'm just a guy
With my guy kinda ways
I live in a single room
With my own bathroom
In the foreign students residence
The same size of room I occupy
Houses six Chinese students
For the last month
Of this university term
This room of mine
Has been in need of cleaning
At first I thought
I better clean my room
I felt a bit guilty
What will others think
It was a twinge of conscience
Then I thought
I'm busy
But my conscience
Kept nagging away
So finally I told it
Look I'm busy
And I'm not cleaning up
Until the semester is over
Furthermore, I reasoned
Hardly anyone comes to my room
And anyone who does is a guy
And their rooms are no cleaner than mine
So that was the end
Of that discussion
And now, two weeks later
The place really needs cleaning
There are books and papers
Strewn all over the floor
In the northeast corner
And bread crumbs and flakes of oatmeal
Under and around my desk
And my clothes
Are piled in the northwest corner
Which reminds me
I need to do a wash
If a woman were to visit me
She'd kick me out
Of my room
And clean the place
Just
To work off her frustration
Of course
If there was
Any chance of that happening
I'd have already cleaned the place
A long time ago.

I liked this one a lot. I'm sure you will eventually clean it whenever you're good and ready! Thanks for sharing!

I really liked this, Ray. I could imagine the mess (Your room is probably still a lot neater than mine.) : -) And I could sense your thought process. The last 9 lines were just the right way to end this piece. Keep up the good work.

Ha! Sounds just like some people I knew back in college many years ago. Well written. I enjoyed reading it.
