I'M Sorry Poem by Cheyenne Watkins

I'M Sorry

One pearly tear
Slides slowly down my cheek.
That’s it - just one.
There’s no need for any more.
But contained in that tear
Are all my fears.
My fear that you’ll never forgive me,
Never really, truly forgive me,
Even though you say you have.
My fear that we’ll slowly drift away,
A chasm splitting us apart,
Growing and growing, wider and deeper,
Until no bridge could ever span the gap.
How could you ever know the depth of my regret?
Don’t you know I’m sorry?
I’m desperately, unbelievably sorry.
I’m sorry!
Can you hear me when I tell you?
I’m sorry!
Please…
Please…
Please forgive me.
