I Might Have Been Born Poem by Francis Duggan

I Might Have Been Born

I might have been born in Britain in France or in Germany
And I might have been born in the U S in Canada or in Italy
And I might have been born in Australia the land of the wombat and roo
Or in China or in Africa or some big City such as Rio or Kathmandu
I might have been born in Norway in Greece or in Pakistan
Or I might have been born in the Middle East somewhere in South America or in Pakistan
Or I might have been born in India or in Russia by the cold Artic Sea
Our Place of birth is by chance and chance only though some with that may disagree
I might have been born in Turkey or Austria or Switzerland or Greece
Or in New Zealand or the South Seas on an Island of sunshine and peace
In the Baltics or in Scandinavia, In Capetown or in the Sudan
Of any Nationality or colour or as a woman or a man
Instead I was born in County Cork in Ireland in Claraghatlea near Millstreet Town
In a beautiful part of the World that is my one claim to renown.
