I Once Poem by Mervyn Graham

I Once

I once played the piano but gave up at an early age
I wanted to write my own songs and play on a stage
I played the accordion but couldn't squeeze out a song
I've strummed a guitar but never got anyone to hum along
I've banged on some drums... oh what a sin
I tried to play like Ringo oh what a din
I started to write a story but I soon lost the plot
I once wrote a song, but the melody never came
I once sang in a choir... in tune... just not the same
I slapped paint on a canvas can you picture that
I've put pen to paper and tried my hand at art
I hoped to create a masterpiece, well at least that's a start
I once tried a poem, a sonnet from yesteryear
I should tell you Shakespeare has nothing whatsoever to fear
I take on life and do what I enjoy
I hope to engage and entertain folks as it keeps me employed
