I'Ve Lived For Sixty One Years Poem by Francis Duggan

I'Ve Lived For Sixty One Years

I've lived for sixty one years in time quite a span
And I reside far from where my life's journey began
I have never been known as a succesful man
But I want to live on for as long as I can.

I no longer daydream of literary fame
And mine won't live on as a remembered name
I don't care if my life story will not be told
But I want to live on for to grow very old.

To the great gift of life I raise my glass of cheer
But of the scythe of the Reaper I do live in fear
But to his higher self Mr Death he is true
He is an egalatarian to give him his due.

I am a great coward of that fact I won't lie
And it scares me to think that I too have to die
And I hope to live on though I have seen many a Spring
For the great gift of life is a wonderful thing.
