I Will Never Let You Go Poem by Dana Lamb

I Will Never Let You Go

My little girl
I guess it’s time to write you a letter
And bring you back to life
All these years I’ve been trying to silence you
To deny your very existence
I have been ignoring your screams
I was cutting you with razorblades
I was trying to poison you with pills
I was letting other people hit you
I so wanted you to go away
I won’t let none of this happen to you ever again
I am truly sorry I was never there for you
When you were choking with tears
Locked up in your room
When you were in a pine forest trying to get lost
So that nobody would ever find you
I couldn’t protect you
When they beat and yelled at you
When their hands were on your thighs
And you could do nothing about it
I couldn’t hug you
When you were thinking
If you were going to be so lonely forever
Please let me take out of your dark room now
I will comb your soft hair and buy you a pretty dress
I’ll powder your pale face and rouge your lips
Look at you now
You’ve become a woman of 23
You are as tall and strong as me
You can look at the world through my eyes
There’s nothing to fear anymore
I will always stay with you
I will never let you go
