I Would Tell You Poem by Mohammad Younus

I Would Tell You

I would tell you,
All that I have is secrets.
Secrets lent to me through inspirations.
Not learning these from Gurus,
Or from manuscripts.
When I receive secrets,
It is as if God is speaking to me,
Though I can't at all see Him.
A secret: I am exactly in the image of my God.
Another: I am lost to the world's tempting brilliance,
I don't know even my true name.

We are not like two lovers on the opposite shores,
Separated by the fathomless sea between us.
There is only One-reality under my skin,
And behind the veils of all creation.
Shades that separate me,
Are the shades of my ignorance.
I am bound to One-reality,
By the unbreakable thread of love.

All in creation wear a single set of pearls,
But not their own.
I know what it is that is shared by all,
As common essence.
I sit in silence behind my eyes,
And watch One manifestation.
We are not the same outwardly,
But we owe our origin to the same source.

I am a shell containing the singing self within.
No one listens to my song, save He.
That sound takes me back where I am free.
If I could speak I would call you,
By what name would I call you, O Nameless.
