Idiots Poem by Caitlyn Cheverie

Idiots

She tried to get me to go
I said no, for I had known they had drunk way too much
It wasn’t his truck so they didn’t care
I told her it would be stupid
And not to drive with a drunk
He claimed he wasn’t and she believed them
Idiots

There were only two of us, smart enough to stay
We didn’t try to stop them,
I told her to have fun!
Idiots

Two complete strangers left standing there together
Nothing better to do so we kept drinking
We had a lot of fun maybe more than needed
Not knowing how long we waited we gave up
And went to bed

The call came around six
Waking us from our deep sleeps
I listened not believing
My head still spinning

All I got from the man on the phone was
Drunken, crash, dead
My best friend gone,
It’s all my fault oh why dint I stop her
Idiot
