'If I' Poem by Princewill Umunnakwe

'If I'

On a vast expansion
Across a mountain peak
Stood a lone mansion
Timewrecked and weak

There lived an old master
So helpless as prey
Lo he could not muster
A fleeting breath to pray

The elder in his prime
Classy as he was kind
Failed to note in time
The lone nature of mind

For ninety years and five
He put a lasting smile
On every strangers live
In one, more or twenty miles

Old and feeble this day
Cold and alone he lay
He gazed at all the emptiness
Alas he shut his tired eyes
And whispered the words 'If' and 'I'
