If It Weren't For My Need For God Poem by Shalom Freedman

If It Weren't For My Need For God

If it weren't for my need for God
I might just live and die
As if what I decide alone matters-
But I cannot-
And so fearful and striving to be kind
I make my quiet way
Through this outrageous and at times impossibly difficult and cruel world
