If You Can Stand Poem by Mary Sweet

If You Can Stand

If you can stand as everyone falls
if you can ignore temptation's calls
or go a new way on unbeaten trails
or stay to succeed when all else fails

If you can run the longer mile
or forget to frown and try a smile
if you can last until the end
or instead of pride turn to a friend

If you can follow every line
if you can lead as one of a kind
or even in the darkest hour
shine your light for all to see,

Not only will you bring you out -
you'll be just you to me.
