I'm Just Asking Poem by Richard Randolph

I'm Just Asking

Are you red?
Are you blue?
Did you vote?
If so, for who?
Are you straight?
Are you gay?
I'm just asking.
It's okay.
Are you a man, a woman, or something else?
What pronouns best describe yourself?
Do you believe in God, the devil,
some other spiritual power?
Are you an atheist?
or simply a doubter?
What do you hate?
What do you love?
Would you describe yourself
as a hawk or a dove?
Why are you silent?
What do you fear?
If you have any questions,
we'd be happy to hear.
Still you won't answer?
Do you have something to hide?
We just need to be sure
you're on our side.
