Impression Poem by David Oladipupo Olorunshola

Impression

I don’t know
What your impression
Let me say first impression
Will be
We are a mix grill
Totally dysfunctional
Though we appear okay
But underneath
Lies period of war and strife
Real and imagined war

I don’t know
If that impression
Will change after
Knowing some of us
Or what those
Who have one time
Or the other stayed
And become acquainted
With us
Only time will tell

Sometimes, when i
Myself reminiscence and
Wondered if we could
Have feared better.
If circumstances had
Been different
Or differently handled
I sincerely don’t
Know what the outcome
Would have been

We all simply tag along
Whatever the situation
Presents itself, we just
Simply tag along
Hoping for the best
Will come out of a bad
And terrible occurrence
Yet, we pretend
To love each other
Or we truly love each other

When you yourself
Look around or
Ask around to know
My family may not
Be doing too badly
Under this circumstances
We are just a bunch
Of inconsistent and
Fearful of themselves
Other families are worst
But able to hide it
