In And Out Poem by Gary Hembree

In And Out

Rating: 3.0

Blink in and out of time.
No grip on reality.
What day is it if not today?
Not a dream do I recall.
Am I awake?
Short of breath never the less.
Could I be asleep?
Blink in and out of time.
Never knowing if I remain awake or at rest.

To me this poem speaks of the subconscious...and hints at Descartes and his saying Cogito Ergo Sum/I think therefore I am. The odd subconscious question of am I really alive, or is my non-being alive enough to imagine myself? Nice provoking thoughts flow from this poem, that can be as deep as the reader allows them to be.

This poem seems to me to be a comment on a very busy life and how we get caught up in
