In Between Two Worlds (In A Country I Visited Some Years Back)

A dream magnificent
gently rose within my mind
of lights splendor, and great buildings
at various heights and at various place.

People were chatting happily
some parroting superior’s instructions
a few like puppeteers ordering the ways of man
the street appeared lively as everyone travels lightly.

Suddenly my dream took a turn towards a gory scene
the layers of man began to shed one by one
and final layer remained intact to the souls, that moves about;
years of unquenched satisfaction, forms thick darkness therein
in silent degradation each walked heavily within
lightly without.

Oh what a pathetic progression
rising building promises nothing
and rising desires unfulfilled ever.

The morning rays of the brilliant sun
carefully penetrates the veil placed;
through the curtains holes
the ray shine sweetly on my face
reminding me of another day among man.

I moved the curtain and looked across the street
many men, women and children
walking around with weight on top of them
jilted by torn dress and hot tropical heat
but I saw an ineffable expression of contentment
because they leave lightly within
in a poor environment void of concrete walls
and running fans
a place we call slum
but palace for happy dwelling for them.

The honking cars signaled the stress of life
the modern man have taken to sign the modernity
but laughter of poverty in happiness I heard
only there in the slum across the hotel I once stayed.
