In Memory Of Bygone Friends(Yǔ Lín Líng) Poem by Perdita Young (Hanna Wang)

In Memory Of Bygone Friends(Yǔ Lín Líng)

Tune: Bells Ringing in the Rain
.
Fiercely, the late autumn wind howls,
Swirling, it knocks hard on my doors.
Tree leaves are withered and broken by now,
While I try to read by th'window, but How?
.
Rain drizzles, making one dumb, aimless and blind,
How can books old and grey enlighten such a mind?
Bygone friends have constantly haunted my heart
Of verse I'm incapable, awake or asleep.
.
Alas! Friends who know me best, have been scattered
Here and there to corners of the Earth remote,
Few occasions to enjoy any real delight;
.
Of this world we go in and out, like candle-light,
Overwhelmed by fatigue, lonely and silent.
The fragrance Garden is mere dream, not to trust,
Nostalgia when flowers wither and fall in tears.
.
Mirages, they will all turn out, passions secret,
In amorous glances for nothing they burn bright.
Prosperous as Spring is, with its orioles and swallows,
The cherished will melt down and fade away at last, like snows.

I do not understand trust in 4th stanza. I get the gist of the poem. perhaps you NEED a television! ! ! ? perhaps if I could read Chinese? I would follow things a little better, but I like the poem and appreciate the translation! bri :)
