In Old Age We More Need Our Friends Poem by Shalom Freedman

In Old Age We More Need Our Friends

IN OLD AGE WE MORE NEED OUR FRIENDS

In old age we more need our friends-
They make us feel we are still alive
And part of the world-
They recapture for us other worlds and times-
They comfort us
They show us someone still cares-
They lead us to laugh in remembrance-
They share sadness for other friends lost-
They make us feel young again,
And remind that it is not we alone who are old-
They give us reason for wanting to live
They make us feel we are wanted still.
