In The Shadows Poem by Luce Darwin

In The Shadows

I've always dreamed of some dark figure
Following me in the alleys
and watching me from the corners
of my bedroom while I read
love poems by my favorite author
Though frightening to others
As it of course would be
I was unafraid of this apparition
I wanted it to be real
And I loved it
And watched for it during the sunlight
In all the passerbys on the streets
And in the closets and the shadows
Of my unkept home
I never did see him
Though I still felt him watching
Everytime I saw the moon
I still find myself wanting
Someday to meet
This dark figure in my dreams
For now I only sit
In the shadows of trees
While my mind plays tricks on me
And says he's right there beside me
