In This Forest Of Despair Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

In This Forest Of Despair

Where is that leadership to be known.
Dependable to rely upon.
But kept to keep as a memory.
When only a pretentiousness,
Today represents,
A leadership incompetent.
And self interest displayed and shown.

Where is the dignity expected,
For a position one elected...
To respect and reflect,
That which the people are left to feel...
Their quality of life and ideals,
Without exception are protected.
Or are at best endeavored.

Where oh where,
In this forest of despair.
Is that one leader more concerned,
About humanity?
The wishes of the people and 'the dreams,
To have their lives prioritized.
Instead of those more involved,
About whose lies are more deceiving.
And sold to the media.
They claim to be fake and unfair.

Although...
Wherever these picked leaders go,
Given to them is free prime time coverage.
To explain their conflicting denials.
And impressive alibis!
From their mouths prepared to quickly flow.
