In This Green And Pleasant Land Poem by Milton Johanides

In This Green And Pleasant Land

The rich are getting restless
In this green and pleasant land
Guilt leaves a lonely feeling
When you see the outstretched hand
The poor are getting restless
In this green and pleasant land
And clowns with clever voices
Pay the piper in the band
The press are getting restless
In this green and pleasant land
Print stories that will grab you
Though their heads are in the sand.
And the kindness of the masses
Sinks down without a trace
And the goodwill of the masses
Puts a smile upon your face
But the restlessness of ages
Chills the blood you understand
They've been restless here for ages
In this green and pleasant land.
