Independence Poem by VEDA ARTHA

Independence

when you celebrate the independence day,
I am smoking out my thoughts
constructed and confined
by the limits that you set.

When you speak about their imperialism
I go through the scars that yours had left in me.
When you speak about invasion of foreigners
I remember your intrusion into my own world

When you find inspiration in your past
I am afraid of my future with your liabilities.
Liabilities defined by your norms and rules
Bound to make me owe you even my freedom.

When you are dwelling on pride of the past
I suffer because of your crimes of present.
We speak in a globalist cosmopolitan world
Where my existence is sanctioned by you.

I, like any other oppressed, became silent
due to habitual irrelevance and insignificance
provided to me by you and your deeds.
I love to have freedom just like India did.

I love to fly my flag of passion for freedom
I love to make a dress for my consciousness
Made of liberal ideas and pragmatic ideologies
I would like to have that mutiny to happen soon.

I dream to be a warrior where I will rise against you
I dream to be a sepoy who will walk against you
I dream to be a fighter who will be against you.
Dreams of this sort will make you know what I am

Just like the history of my nation, I will have my own
Where I will force you with my perseverance to owe me
not grant me, but owe me what I really hold within me.
It will be the end of your charter of my life and its ways.

Well demonstration of Satyagraha might be sensitive
To your social image, as you say it, “What will people say? ”
But I cant take arms that deprive me of humanity,
As my heart will ask me“What will your mind say? ”

This struggle for independence of my mind and body
Had started even before India became India.
Aren’t you aware about the Old apple snak and sin story
You hold me captive for your illusions of utopian heaven.
You made me dependent on you when my skin
Tone differed from yours and made me your slave.
You made me dependent when you had an identity
Which was not mine, and you counted that superior.
You taught me that I am dependent on you
After eating out my sweat with ease and pleasure
You had made me trust the words of your creed
Because I was afraid not enarmoured.
Dependency at every foot step, I lost myself

Now I have to be independent
Keeping myself secured away
From you and your thoughts.
My lost freedom is never your gain
What I lost will burn you down one day
Just like India I dream for freedom, for centuries
Even at this midnight or under a noon sky.
Just like India I am fighting for my freedom
With words, deeds.thoughts and what not.
Just like india I want to grow
Ensure an inclusive growth.
From freedom I grow
With freedom I grow
To freedom I grow
