Inn Poem by Hans Raj Sharma

Inn

Rating: 5.0

He and she
Sparrows
Both
Inhabitants
Of the kitchen
Garden
By the side
Of my residence.
All of us used to
Live together
Happily
And peacefully.

For a long time
He and she
Both
Toiled so hard
From
The day one
To arrange for
Straw by straw
The whole
Material
To build a home
The one
As their nest.

Beautifully
Built therein
In the bushy
Branches of
One of umbrellas
Type-trees
Both cohabited
Together with
Cheerfully
Chirping
With great
Expectations
And lofty
Ambitions
Dreaming
Of their own
Young ones.

Thereafter
Watching
And feeding
Them
With fullest
Their ability
Hopefully
This year also
She got
Pregnant
By the times.

I too was
Anxiously
Waiting for
Welcoming
The little ones
Into my garden
For its
Pleasantness.

As such-
Both
He and she
Used to
Entertain
And charm
With their
Chirping
Of a variety
Of songs
Of joys
And sorrows
For me
And my family
In sweet tones
As a routine
Of the habitat
How sweet it was!

God knows-
Why?
One fateful day
A black-white
Bloody-cat
All of a sudden
Leapt upon
Killing
And swallowing
The mother bird
The pregnant one
The basic bird
Along with its
Unborn
All hopes
And expectations
Of both of us
He bird and me
Dashing
Into the ground
Thus leaving
Behind
Both of us
Grief-stricken
He and me.

Next morning-
There was none
No one sat
On my window
To awaken me up
From my snooze
Dreaming of-
She being alive
Prolonging
The moments
Out of grief-
I slept so deep
Till late enough
Breaking
All my routines.

All of a sudden
Shocking extra
I learnt that
Broken down
He bird
My only friend
Deserting me
Without
Any notice
Had anywhere
Away flown
Ever since
I’m all alone.
