Innocence Poem by abdirahman haaji rilwaan

Innocence

Rating: 4.0

We are bought in to this world innocent
Carelessly roaming around
In what seems to be a world of luxury
Safe and comfortable
As we age
We get a grip of reality
From teachers we once were inspired by
To the mother we deemed perfect
As the innocence of what once was
Our perception
It's rattled by reality
To a time when our eyes
Have been stricken by darkness
Destroying everything in our paths
For destruction is but human
We wander the world with
Such pain in our hearts
With each sunset
Peace is lost
With every morn
Innocence is assumed
By the new souls
Trying our best to preserve
The perception of the innocent
Maybe this child will prosper
Or maybe like the rest
It's doomed to fall
A never ending cycle
of hope
