Intensity Poem by Fran Spear

Intensity

The intensity of
intense is
intense

Boiling water at 212 degrees F.
Then there's boiling aluminum at 3,000 degrees F.
intense

Then the rest
whatever element boils at the highest degree F.
before it does not boil anymore
intense

Then there's the core
of the Sun - not boiling? how do you know?
intense

And if the Sun's heat is likened to an icecube
what is hot?
intense

Am I water-seared?
like a lobster going in for the cooking?
or Sun Seared? for what I do not know -
but it must be because it is -
intense

Then there's the Plains of Dura
there's a fire that doesn't hurt
if you know the God walking in it with you?
intense

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
My dad worked on the Manhattan Project where it would happen that men would analyze concepts of hot and cold and what they really are - to plumb the depths of the atom and ignite it to oblivion - it must have been on their minds all the time.

He left me with these thoughts - among others!
COMMENTS OF THE POEM
Fran Spear 17 April 2016

As stuff slows down to become light and light slows down to become elements; energy - heat transfers bring it all about - wish people would think about creation in a way that honors it instead of destroys it.
