Into The Mouth Of The Lion Poem by Robert Rorabeck

Into The Mouth Of The Lion

I come into the mouth of the lion
Where I dance,
When my wife is taking a shower,
And in a zoo near here there
Is a merry-go-round
That doesn't turn once there are
Stars in the sky,
And some Disney movie is playing
In a nearby theatre
Until the lights shut off and the
Strip joints
Open—like my mouth and my
Thoughts after I have drunken too much—
And all of the playgrounds have emptied—
And the little thing that will be my son
Shadow boxes in my wife's Chinese
Belly—
Until New Years, when there will be fireworks,
And a few more days off until
I will have to go back to school.
