Is Daddy Home Yet? Poem by Katrina Olson

Is Daddy Home Yet?

I sit in my room all alone.
I can hear the yelling,
Feel the sting of his slaps.
All I can think, is daddy home yet?
I did nothing wrong;
No I did not
'He doesn't mean it' my mom once said
But still all I can think
As im sitting all alone
Is daddy home yet?
I hear the car door slam
My heart skips a beat
The yelling
The stinging
Its stronger
Because its happening to me
As it happens all I can think
Is daddy home yet?
He is not my daddy but a stranger in his clothes
My daddy would not hit me
When will he be home?
1...2...3... slaps in a row
Then I realize... daddy is home.
