Is Quitting Correct? Poem by Joshua Bantum

Is Quitting Correct?

If we quit our jobs,
Our homes, families,
Friends and kindred,
Our lives, our worries, our cries,
Our toils and hatreds;
our tries,
Failures, completions,
Temptations, expectations and assumptions,

Would we have anything to do,
But be ourselves,
And if that’s all,
Would we be content,
With being ourselves,
Apart from all those other things
We think,
Constantly on, all the time.
Does that one moment of selfish love
Exempt us from the thousands of others
Focused on everything but?
Does that one kiss of
Pure enjoyment,
Make the fight for that next pure
Moment of self absorbance,
Any more special,
Any more worth it?
