It is hard to feel happy if you are financially down
And one of the unemployed in the poor side of the town
Where the out of work are many and jobs are few
And hard times to most people there nothing new
It is hard to feel happy when things are not going your way
With a wife and three young children and a big mortgage to pay
And you cannot afford to go for a drink to the local public bar
It is when you are down you know who your friends are
Born as one of the children of the lesser gods
From day one you have had to battle the odds
You do love your children and you do love your wife
Though few things for you ever go right in life
Three months ago the directors of the factory you worked in closed their business down
It is hard out of work on the poor side of the town.
