It Is The Law Of Nature Poem by Francis Duggan

It Is The Law Of Nature

The brush tail possums snarling on the trees in the moonlight
They wage war for a female in a territorial fight
Two big males want to mate with her but only one can have that right
They go hard at each other and scratch and claw and bite.

It is the law of Nature the strongest male succeed
In winning a territory and with the females mate and breed
And it is the law of Nature that the loser has to flee
And later challenge another male for to claim a territory.

It is the law of Nature that the strongest their genes pass on
And their offsprings will survive them when they are dead and gone
To fight for their own territories and appease their sexual drive
The strongest and the fittest their genes sure to survive.

A cold night in early Winter the rain is drizzling down
And the brush tail possums fighting on the park trees of the Town
Their fight is about territory and their natural urge to mate
And to the winner goes the honour for the right to copulate.
