It's Far Better For Me That I Do You Forget (English Sonnet) Poem by Gert Strydom

It's Far Better For Me That I Do You Forget (English Sonnet)

Once our love flamed hot like an ember,
now away from you, you have destiny set.
If the great and good of love I remember,
it's better for me that I do you forget.

Icy your acts and words chill me to the bone,
as if evil deep in your heart do flourish.
In my hope and dreams I am all alone
with nothing noble expectations to nourish,

as in life and love nothing is sadder,
than a mere whim cheating principle's grasp,
the blossom that changes to an adder,
the apple with in it worms of the wasp

and true love is much more than emotion,
it's filled with intent and devotion.
