Jacob's Ladder-Sulam Yaakov Poem by Michael P. Johnson

Jacob's Ladder-Sulam Yaakov

Where Jacob, first to His God prayed Bethel=House of God
Where God revealed His Name
Where the Patriarch's bones are laid
Jacob would lay his claim

But what's happened to Jacob now
His enemies to please
Bidding, begging, while knees they bow
Offering household keys

Do deeds as this make God content?
Giving away God's land
Tightening pegs in Jacob's tent
Defying God's command? Deut.19: 14

The Torah's here as ever
To open Jacob's eyes
Not from his birthright to sever
But make Israel wise

Life's journey's been fraught with danger
Though foes have always been
God's often been thought a stranger
Through faith, lost in-between

The bible makes news, more clear Jer.31: 31
Just as the Torah's true
Through Christ Salvation draws near
To Christian souls and Jew

If not today, but tomorrow
The living truth will dawn
Razing Jacob's roots of sorrow
Where Israel's reborn

Not through religious tradition
Nor where you've journeyed wrong
Just to God complete submission
Will peace be Jacob's song.....
