Jenna Lee Is Sleeping Poem by Craig Dawson

Jenna Lee Is Sleeping

Jenna Lee is sleeping
in her bed with the curtains drawn.
I step so soft beside her
like the first faint light of dawn.
So fragile with her eyes closed,
so beautiful and shy.
Jenna Lee is sleeping
and an hour has gone by.

I sit down close beside her
and watch her in this dream,
of memories now close to me
and things I should redeem.
I'd forgotten how to make her laugh
but now I know I'd try.
Jenna Lee is sleeping
an an hour has gone by.

When I slept beside her,
I knew the sound of her heart.
Funny how you get so close
yet still you drift apart.
But the girl that time had left behind
is now before my eyes,
where Jenna Lee is sleeping
and the day is drifting by.

When I look at her I have to smile
and I gently stroke her hair.
Then I feel a sadness from the past
and that sorrow fills the air.
She is everything I need
but I always wanted more.
In this moment of regret I know
of this I can be sure,
that I will make it up to her
if time will allow.
Jenna Lee is sleeping,
I guess the time is now.

Jenna Lee is sleeping
in her bed with the curtains drawn.
The fading light throws shadows
that stretch across the lawn.
I kiss her lips and touch her hand
and leave her there alone.
Jenna Lee is sleeping
in the darkness of our home.
