Jesse The Runner Poem by Ima Ryma

Jesse The Runner

Rating: 5.0

Jesse Owens, a 'Bama boy,
Born in Oakville, nineteen thirteen.
Running did become his main joy,
A star in the local track scene.
Later, world records he did set.
In nineteen thirty six he went
To the Olympics and did get
Four gold medals at the event.
Germany's peeved Hitler did say
Blacks were stronger than whites and so
In Olympics of future day
Blacks should not be able to go.

Running secret, Jesse did share,
Keep feet off ground and in the air.

A great athlete. When I was young and in my prime / I ran a marathon many a time / now I'm wrinkled old and grey / I only run them twice a day! 😀
