Jimmy Poem by Francis Duggan

Jimmy

Rating: 5.0

He is always talking to himself old Jimmy some say he's not right in the head
His bungalow once well kept and clean looking from neglect looking more like a shed
He is in his mid to late eighties his wife she has been dead for years
He no longer goes to the Local he used to enjoy his few beers.

He used to be a well dressed fellow though for his appearance he no longer care
The clothes on him now looking shabby he does not even comb his gray hair
Some say old age can be a punishment to Jimmy those words must apply
Yet to life he will keep on clinging he says he is too young to die.

One might say he was rather sprightly up to five or six years ago
But of late he is getting more feeble he walks with a cane and quite slow
He talks to himself as he is walking he does like his own company
Yet he is a harmless old fellow wish all were as harmless as he.

Some say he is not right in the head though with him I see nothing wrong
'Tis just that he feels a bit lonely and he no longer feels physically strong
One day we will all be like Jimmy old age is never anyone's friend
And the gray dawning of tomorrow brings us one day nearer our end.
